The Truth, the whole truth and nothin but the truth

I know we are almost a month into the New Year, but I am still contemplating our focus for 2005, personally, as a family, a ministry and the radio.

That focus can be summed up in two words, the truth. Ephesians 4:15 say that we should “speak the truth in love.” We should continue to proclaim the truth, but we should do it with the right motivation, the true perspective and in a way that does not excuse sin, but does not cast away the sinner as well.

I have spent a lot of time in the past year in addressing such issues as the sufficiency of scripture, and confronting subjects such as the church growth movements known as Seeker Sensitive and Purpose Driven. I have many people tell me that I have flogged that horse too many times, over emphasizing these two philosophies. I disagree with the premise of that argument, but I admit that sometimes the intent of the emphasis might have been misunderstood. So it is my goal and intention from now on to make the purpose of the discussion clear.

Will I cease to name names, of course not! But I have assurance that the Word of the Lord is “is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart”. Hebrews 4:12

So the charge given to me, and to you, is the same that given to Timothy by the Apostle Paul, when he simply said, “Preach the Word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.’ 2 Timothy 4:2

Preach the Word.
